My Story: The Heart Behind The MWBE Coach
My name is Talia Johnson- Huff I am an author, serial entrepreneur, licensed stylist and construction professional. Growing up, I learned early that life is full of challenges, but it’s how we rise from them that defines us. My roots shaped me into the resilient businesswoman I am today—both for better and for worse. They instilled in me a relentless drive to succeed, but they also left me navigating the complexities of business without a map or a mentor.
When I first started out, I faced a lonely and uphill battle. I was surrounded by polished professionals who rarely showed the cracks in their success stories. No one was transparent enough to admit their struggles, their failures, or the sleepless nights filled with doubt. I felt isolated, navigating an unfamiliar landscape where it seemed like everyone else had a secret playbook.
But I quickly realized that failure wasn’t the end—it was part of the process. I learned to fail forward. Every setback taught me valuable lessons and propelled me closer to success. Over the past 20 years, I’ve built a business and a vast network of connections, not by pretending to have it all together, but by being honest about the journey—the good, the bad, and the ugly.
That honesty and authenticity are the foundation of The MWBE Coach.

The Why
I created The MWBE Coach because I don’t want anyone else to feel the way I did—alone, unsure, and unsupported. I’ve been there, and I understand the unique challenges that Minority, Women, and Veteran-Owned Businesses face. But I also know the incredible potential that lies within these businesses when they are given the right tools, resources, and guidance.
The MWBE Coach isn’t about offering a cookie-cutter program or recreating what’s already out there. It’s about collaboration, not competition. It’s about building relationships, leveraging my network, and offering real-world insights that can only come from experience.
I’m not just a coach. I’m a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, and a guide who understands the struggles because I’ve lived them. I share my failures so that others can avoid them, and I celebrate my successes to show what’s possible.
What Failing Forward Means to Me
“Failing Forward” isn’t just a catchy phrase—it’s my mantra. It’s about embracing the lessons in every stumble, dusting yourself off, and stepping into the next opportunity with greater wisdom and strength. Through The MWBE Coach and the Black in Business Curriculum, I equip entrepreneurs to learn from their missteps and keep their businesses thriving “in the black”—profitable, sustainable, and impactful.
Building Together
The MWBE Coach isn’t just about me—it’s about us. It’s about creating a community where businesses can collaborate for growth and development, rather than competing for scraps. Together, we create opportunities, open doors, and build legacies.
I believe in the power of storytelling, transparency, and collective wisdom. If my journey—my triumphs and my failures—can help even one entrepreneur succeed, then every hardship I’ve faced has been worth it.
Let’s build something extraordinary together. Let’s fail forward, learn together, and grow stronger as a community. Because when one of us wins, we all win.
